Archetypal Californians keep their plastic surgeon on their speed dial. When not at the beach they spend their mornings at their dermatologists and their afternoons at the tanning salon. They're Buddhist vegetarians, but only as a fashion statement. They have very straight, very white teeth, which they keep on display all the time, generally while in their mouths, sort of like a portable trophy case. When female Californians reach the age of twenty-five, they turn invisible.
